It's lights out and away we go in the US...
And Max Verstappen comes home to win his 50th Grand Prix!
Numerous times this season, Max Verstappen has won at a canter, representative of the dominance the Dutch Champion and the RB 19 possess this year. On Sunday, at the Circuit of the Americas, he had to earn it. Starting sixth on the grid was compounded by a brake problem, and with Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris in contention, Verstappen was pushed to the chequered flag.
He delivered precise control, managing immense pressure to secure his 50th victory. Post-race, however, both the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc were disqualified for failing the plank wear inspection. With the disqualifications, Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz took the podium places, ahead of Sergio Perez and George Russell.
Both Mercedes and McLaren adopted alternative tyre strategies, but the Silver Arrows especially have looked revitalized and resurgent in recent weeks. McLaren's major upgrades have proved extraordinary, making up 137 points over Aston Martin to take a tentative fourth place in the Championship.
Lance Stroll recovered from a pit-lane start, while Pierre Gasly impressed in eight. Logan Sargent claimed his first point as a rookie, while Yuki Tsunoda and Alex Albon claimed valuable points.
The Championship battle has concluded, yet races like this keep the entertainment alive.
